Wesley Joel Matthews Sr. (born August 24, 1959) is a former American professional basketball player. He played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and won two NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers. Wes Matthews is also the father of current NBA player Wesley Matthews.

Wes Matthews' Basketball Journey
Wes Matthews finished high school at Warren Harding High in Bridgeport, Connecticut, in 1977. He was a 6 ft 1 in (1.85 m) point guard when he played for the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
NBA Career Highlights
The Washington Bullets picked him as the 14th player in the 1980 NBA draft. He played for nine seasons in the NBA. During his time in the league, he played for several teams. These included the Bullets, Atlanta Hawks, Philadelphia 76ers, Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs, and Los Angeles Lakers.
Matthews scored 3,654 points in his NBA career. He also averaged about eight points and four assists per game. He won two NBA Championship rings with the Los Angeles Lakers in 1987 and 1988.
Playing Around the World
Wes Matthews stopped playing professional basketball in 1996. Besides the NBA, he also played in other leagues. He played in the United States Basketball League and the Continental Basketball Association.
He also played basketball in other countries. He spent the 1989–90 season playing in Italy for Ranger Varese. He also played in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). In 1991, he won the "Best Import" award in the Philippines while playing for Ginebra San Miguel.
Personal Life
Wes Matthews has a son named Wesley. His son is also a basketball guard. Wesley played for Marquette University and has been playing in the NBA since 2009.
