West Nordic Council's Children and Youth Literature Prize facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The West Nordic Council's Children and Youth Literature Prize is a special award for amazing books written for kids and teenagers! It was started in 2002 by the West Nordic Council. This prize is given out every two years, usually in August, during the Council's yearly meeting.

The three countries that are part of the West Nordic region are Greenland, Iceland, and the Faroe Islands. (Greenland and the Faroe Islands are like special parts of the Kingdom of Denmark that manage many of their own affairs.) Each of these countries gets to pick one great book to be considered for the prize.

The person who wins the award gets DKK 60,000 (that's a lot of money!) and their book is translated into the other two languages of the region. It's also translated into one of the main Scandinavian languages: Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, or Finnish. The best part is, the winner doesn't have to pay for any of these translations!
