West Nordic Council's Children and Youth Literature Prize facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The West Nordic Council's Children and Youth Literature Prize is a special award for books written for kids and teens. It was started in 2002 by the West Nordic Council. This prize is given out every two years, usually in August, during the Council's yearly meeting.

The award celebrates books from three countries in Northern Europe: Greenland, Iceland, and the Faroe Islands. (Greenland and the Faroe Islands are self-governing parts of the Kingdom of Denmark.) Each of these countries suggests one book for the prize. The winner receives 60,000 Danish Kroner (DKK), and their book is translated into the other two languages of the region. It's also translated into one of the main Scandinavian languages: Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, or Finnish. The best part is, the winner doesn't have to pay for these translations!
