West Trenton is a small community in Ewing Township, New Jersey. It is located in Mercer County, United States. This area is a suburban neighborhood right next to the city of Trenton. West Trenton gets its name because it's on the western side of Trenton.
You can find West Trenton where Bear Tavern Road/Grand Avenue meets West Upper Ferry Road. It is one of the oldest places settled in Ewing Township.

History of West Trenton
This community has had a few different names over time. First, it was known as Birmingham. After that, it was called Trenton Junction. Eventually, it became known as West Trenton, which is its name today.
Most of the homes in West Trenton are single-family houses. There are also some semi-attached homes. Many of these houses were built between the early 1900s and the 1950s.

West Trenton is home to several important places. These include the main office for the New Jersey State Police. You can also find the Trenton–Mercer Airport here. This airport is used by both civilians and the military.
Other interesting spots include the Trenton Country Club. The New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Company and The Homasote Company are also located here.
Schools and Education
West Trenton has special schools for students. The Marie H. Katzenbach School for the Deaf is here. This school helps students who are deaf or hard of hearing. It opened in West Trenton in 1923.
Villa Victoria Academy is another school in the area. It is a Catholic school for girls. It teaches students from elementary to high school.
Students in West Trenton attend schools run by Ewing Public Schools. They go to Ewing High School for their high school education.
Religious Places
There are several churches in West Trenton. These include Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, which is a Roman Catholic church. The West Trenton Presbyterian Church is also here. Calvary Chapel of Mercer County is an Evangelical church in the community.
Transportation and Roads
Interstate 295 is a major highway. It runs just northwest of West Trenton. Bear Tavern Road connects the community to this highway.
The West Trenton Train Station is an important stop. It is the very last stop on the SEPTA Regional Rail West Trenton Line. This train line helps people travel to and from the area.
Past Industries in West Trenton
West Trenton was once a place for manufacturing. It was the site of the General Motors Inland Fisher Guide Plant. This factory was part of the Fisher Body division.
West Trenton's Role in World War II
During World War II, this factory played a big role. It produced the TBM version of the Grumman TBF Avenger. This was a type of torpedo bomber airplane. These planes were made for the United States Navy.
Women worked at the factory during the war. They even flew the bombers from the nearby airport. They would fly them to places where the planes were needed for deployment. The old factory building has since been taken down. The site is now being cleaned up for new development.
The Naval Air Warfare Center Trenton was also in West Trenton. It was a large facility covering about 528 acres. This center operated from 1953 until 1997.
