The West Trenton station is the last stop on the SEPTA West Trenton Line. It is found in Ewing Township, New Jersey. The station has two buildings. One is on Grand Avenue, and the other is on Sullivan Way. Even though it's in Ewing, SEPTA's website says it's in Trenton. Many people use this station to travel for work or school. It also has parking for cars.
Station History
The West Trenton station was built a long time ago in 1929. The Reading Railroad built it first. Later, in 1976, Conrail and SEPTA took it over. Trains used to go all the way to Newark, New Jersey from here.
In 1982, New Jersey Transit stopped running trains to Newark from this station. This made West Trenton the final stop on the line. The station is so special that it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. This means it's an important historical building.
Today, one of the old station buildings is used for private offices. There's even talk about changing the station's name to "Ewing." This station might also be the end point for a future New Jersey Transit train line.
Station Design
The station was built in a style called Georgian Revival. It looks like a classic, old building. The main part of the station is two stories tall. It is made of brick and has a slanted slate roof. Two smaller, one-story sections extend from the main building.
How the Station Works
West Trenton station has one side platform. This is where people wait to get on and off the trains. In 2015, some changes were made to the tracks. Now, all SEPTA trains use only one track between Yardley and West Trenton.
