West York is a small town, called a borough, located right next to the City of York. It is in York County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. In 2020, about 5,094 people lived there.

History of West York
West York started as a village known as Eberton. It officially became a borough in 1904.

Several buildings in West York are very old and important. They are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These include the Ashley and Bailey Company Silk Mill, the William Shelly School and Annex, and the West Side Sanitarium. These places help us remember the past of West York.

Land Area of the Borough

West York Police Department
The West York Borough Police Department (WYBPD) started in 1917. It is a full-time police force that works 24 hours a day. They respond to emergencies and investigate crimes in West York.
How the Police Department Works
The police department has a chief of police, sergeants, and patrol officers. Currently, there are 15 sworn police officers. They have a patrol division, a team that investigates crimes, and a special K-9 unit with police dogs. The officers use Ford Interceptors and Ford Tauruses as patrol cars. They also use police mountain bicycles.
West York Fire and EMS Services
The West York Fire Department (WYFD) protects the borough from fires. The borough pays fire drivers who operate the fire trucks. These drivers also check buildings for safety and issue permits for businesses and rental homes.
Volunteer Firefighters
The Reliance Fire Company was started in 1904. It is a group of volunteer firefighters. They help the paid drivers and use the borough's fire trucks. The volunteers also have their own utility truck and a vehicle for the duty officer. Both the paid and volunteer firefighters work from the same building.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
Emergency medical services in West York are provided by First Capital EMS Station 5–1. This group helps people who need urgent medical care. It used to be called West York Ambulance before it joined with other EMS groups.
