Western gorilla range |
The western gorilla (Gorilla gorilla) is a type of great ape. These amazing animals are the most common kind of gorilla in the world. Almost all western gorillas belong to a group called the western lowland gorilla. The other, much rarer, group is the Cross River gorilla.
What Do Western Gorillas Look Like?
Western gorillas usually have lighter fur than their cousins, the eastern gorillas. Western lowland gorillas have fur that can be black, dark grey, or dark brown-grey. They also have a brownish color on their forehead.
Adult male western gorillas are quite tall, usually around 155 centimeters (about 61 inches) when measured in the wild.
