Westerveld is a municipality in the northeastern Netherlands. A municipality is like a local government area, similar to a county or a town with its own rules.

The municipality of Westerveld was created on January 1, 1998. It was formed by joining four smaller municipalities: Diever, Dwingeloo, Havelte, and Vledder. A channel called the Drentsche Hoofdvaart runs through Westerveld. You can also find two beautiful National Parks here: the Drents-Friese Wold and Dwingelderveld.

Dwingeloo: A Special Town

Dwingeloo is a well-known town located between Meppel and Assen. It's famous for its radio telescope. This telescope is part of the Dwingeloo Radio Observatory. You can find it on the edge of the Dwingeloo Heath, about 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) south of the village.
