Westmoreland Circle: A Special Spot
What is Westmoreland Circle?
A traffic circle, also known as a roundabout, is a circular intersection where roads meet. Instead of traffic lights, cars drive around a central island. This helps traffic flow smoothly and can make intersections safer. Westmoreland Circle is a great example of how these circles work, managing cars coming from different directions.
Buildings Around the Circle
Even though it's a busy traffic circle, only two main buildings are right next to Westmoreland Circle:
- The Westmoreland Congregational United Church of Christ is on the north side of the circle. Its address is 1 Westmoreland Circle.
- A power substation for Pepco (Potomac Electric Power Company) is also nearby. It's cleverly designed to look like a house, so it blends in with the neighborhood!
Special Markers and Signs
Westmoreland Circle has some interesting markers and signs that tell a bit about its history and purpose:
- On the north and west sides, you can see special entrance markers. These were put there by the Garden Club of America. They show where Massachusetts Avenue enters Washington, D.C.
- There's also a sign from the AAA (American Automobile Association). This sign helps drivers find their way to the Kenwood Golf and Country Club.
