History of Wheeler Village
Wheeler got its name from H. D. Wheeler, who was the first postmaster in the area. Before being called Wheeler, the settlement had two other names. First, it was known as Lochiel. Later, it was called Welton, named after Maria L. Welton. She was an important person who set up a homestead, or a family farm, in that area.
Geography and Location
Wheeler is a small place, covering about 0.82 square miles (2.13 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, about 0.79 square miles (2.05 square kilometers). A small part, about 0.03 square miles (0.08 square kilometers), is water.
