The White Cliffs of Dover

The White Cliffs of Dover are cliffs in Dover, England. The cliffs are a part of the North Downs cliff formation. The cliffs are white because they are made out of chalk. These cliffs are a major tourist destination for thousands of people every year. The cliffs are also the biggest cliffs in Britain.

Dover is a huge seaport. It is the easiest way to get to France except for the Channel Tunnel. This is because between Dover and Calais is the shortest distance between France and Britain. These cliffs have great symbolic value because this was often the last thing people saw of Britain before travelling to Continental Europe. This is also the site of famous historic battles. In a clear day, the cliffs can be seen from France.
