Whiteface: A Town's Story
The town of Whiteface got its name from a ranch. A rancher named C. C. Slaughter had a place called "Whiteface Camp." He also had a "Whiteface Pasture." These names came from the type of cattle he raised, which were called "whiteface" cattle.
In 1924, C. C. Slaughter's son-in-law, Ira P. DeLoache, helped create the community of Whiteface from the ranch land. The very next year, the town moved a few miles. This move was so it could be closer to the railroad, which was important for travel and trade. In 1937, oil was found near the town. This discovery helped the town grow. Whiteface officially became an incorporated town in 1945.
