Whiteness is a small village located in the Shetland Islands of Scotland. It's found on Mainland, which is the largest island in the Shetland group. The name 'Whiteness' comes from an old language, meaning 'white headland,' probably because of how the land looks near the sea.

Where is Whiteness?
Whiteness is about seven miles (or 11 kilometers) north-west of Lerwick, which is the main town in the Shetland Islands. It's part of a larger area called Tingwall parish.
Whiteness's History
For a long time, Whiteness was its own separate area, known as a 'civil parish.' Think of a parish as a local area with its own government or administration. But in 1891, Whiteness joined with Tingwall parish.
What's in Whiteness?
Even though it's a small village, Whiteness has important places for its community.
Local Buildings and Activities
There's a Methodist church in the southern part of Whiteness. Churches are often central to village life, offering a place for worship and community gatherings.
Whiteness also has a primary school, which is a school for younger children. This school faces a football pitch used by a local team called Whitedale F.C. Right next to the primary school is the Whiteness hall. Village halls are usually places where people can meet for events, clubs, or celebrations.
