Whitney is a small place in Placer County, California. It is called an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that are not part of an official city or town.
Whitney is about 6 miles (10 km) northwest of Roseville. It sits at an elevation of 131 feet (40 meters) above sea level. A big resort called Thunder Valley Casino Resort is located here.
How Whitney Got Its Name
The community of Whitney was named to honor a local rancher. His name was Joel Parker Whitney. He was an important person in the area's history.
The Mysterious Pyramid Tomb
One interesting spot near Whitney is the Whitney's Pyramid Tomb. It is located in Rocklin, California. You can find it at 38°49′33″N 121°14′48″W / 38.825928°N 121.246666°W.
The tomb is easy to reach from Rocklin Monument Park. You can get there in two ways. One way is to follow the paved walking path in the park. This path starts at the end of Ketchikan Drive. The other way is a walking trail. This trail begins near the end of Hood Road and Sitka Drive in Rocklin.
