Whitney Osuigwe (born April 17, 2002) is an American tennis player. She has achieved high rankings in both singles and doubles tennis. Her best singles ranking was world No. 105 in August 2019. In doubles, she reached No. 115 in October 2024.
In 2017, Whitney was named the ITF Junior World Champion. This was a big achievement for her. She also won the junior French Open that year. She was the first American girl to win that event in 28 years.

About Whitney Osuigwe
Whitney Osuigwe started playing tennis at a young age. She began training at the IMG Academy when she was six years old. Her father, Desmond, has been a teacher there since 1997. He is also her main coach.
Desmond Osuigwe is from Lagos, Nigeria. He played professional tennis before moving to the United States for college. Whitney has an older brother, Deandre, who plays college basketball. Her younger sister, Victoria, also plays tennis.
Whitney's Junior Tennis Career
Whitney Osuigwe had a very successful junior career. In June 2017, she became the No. 2 junior player in the world. She was especially good on clay courts.
Winning the Junior French Open
Whitney started her amazing 2017 season by reaching the semifinals at the Orange Bowl. This is a major junior tennis tournament. She then won two big clay-court tournaments in February.
Her biggest junior win came at the 2017 Junior French Open. She beat fellow American player Claire Liu in the final. This made her the first American girl to win the event since Jennifer Capriati in 1989. Whitney was only 15 years and 2 months old at the time.
Becoming Junior World Champion
Whitney finished 2017 as the top-ranked junior player in the world. Because of this, she was named the 2017 ITF Junior World Champion. She also won the Orange Bowl again before the year ended.
In August 2018, Whitney won the USTA Girls 18s National Championships. This win gave her a special entry into the main tournament of the US Open.
Whitney's Professional Tennis Career
Whitney Osuigwe began playing in professional tournaments. Her first main tournament on the WTA Tour was at the 2018 Miami Open. She played against Claire Liu, who was also a junior rival.
In January 2019, Whitney joined the Spain team at the 2019 Hopman Cup. She filled in for another player who was injured. She played in a mixed-doubles match there.
Later in March 2019, she played in the Miami Open again. She won her first match against Mari Osaka. Mari is the sister of famous tennis player Naomi Osaka.
Professional Titles
Whitney has won several titles in her professional career. She has won one WTA Challenger doubles title. She also has won nine doubles titles and five singles titles on the ITF Circuit. These are tournaments that help players gain experience and improve their rankings.
