Whitney Osuigwe (pronounced uh-SIG-way; born April 17, 2002) is a talented American tennis player. She has achieved a high ranking in the world of tennis, reaching No. 105 in singles and No. 117 in doubles. A big moment in her early career was becoming the ITF Junior World Champion in 2017. She also won the girls' singles title at the 2017 French Open, making her the first American girl to win that event in 28 years!

About Whitney Osuigwe
Whitney started playing tennis at the IMG Academy when she was just six years old. Her father, Desmond, has been a teacher there since 1997 and is also her main coach. Desmond is from Lagos, Nigeria, and used to play professional tennis before he came to the United States for college. Whitney has an older brother, Deandre, who plays college basketball, and a younger sister, Victoria, who also plays tennis.
Whitney's Junior Tennis Career
In June 2017, Whitney became the No. 2 ranked junior tennis player in the world. She was really good on clay courts, winning many tournaments.
- She reached the semifinals at the Orange Bowl in December.
- She won two big clay-court tournaments in a row in February.
- Her biggest junior win was the 2017 Junior French Open. She beat another American player, Claire Liu, in the final.
Winning the French Open was a huge deal!
- She was the first American girl to win the event since Jennifer Capriati in 1989.
- She was the fifth American champion overall.
- She was also one of the youngest winners ever, at just under 15 years and 2 months old.
- It was only the second time that two American players played against each other in the final of this event.
Whitney finished 2017 as the top-ranked junior player in the world. Because of this, she was named the 2017 ITF Junior World Champion. She also won the Orange Bowl before the year ended.
In August 2018, Whitney won the USTA Girls 18s National Championships. This win gave her a special entry, called a wildcard, into the main part of the US Open tournament.

- 2017 French Open: She won the singles title, beating Claire Liu.

- 2017 Wimbledon: She was a runner-up in doubles with Caty McNally.
- 2018 Wimbledon: She was a runner-up in doubles again with Caty McNally.
Whitney's Professional Tennis Career
Whitney started playing in bigger professional tournaments.
- Her first main-draw match on the WTA Tour was at the 2018 Miami Open. She played against Claire Liu, who she knew from her junior days.
- In January 2019, she joined the Spain team at the 2019 Hopman Cup. She played in a mixed-doubles match.
- In March 2019, she got another wildcard entry into the Miami Open. She won her first match against Mari Osaka, who is the sister of famous tennis player Naomi Osaka. This was her first win in a main draw WTA tournament!
Whitney has also won some titles in smaller professional tournaments called the ITF Circuit.
- She has won 3 singles titles and 9 doubles titles on the ITF Circuit.
- In November 2023, she won a WTA Challenger doubles title with her partner Hailey Baptiste.
