Wii Chess is a video game where you can play chess on your Wii console. It was made by Nintendo and Lancarse. Nintendo also published the game. It first came out in Europe on January 18, 2008. Later, on September 30, 2008, it was released in Japan as a downloadable game.
When Wii Chess was first announced, people had different opinions about it. Some players thought it was missing features. For example, it didn't let you use your Mii characters. It also didn't have many ways to customize the game. Some people felt it was too expensive for what it offered. However, many players liked how challenging the computer opponents were. They also enjoyed being able to play against other people online.
Wii Chess was sold for about €30 or £21 when it first came out. Some critics thought this price was too high. This game was never released in North America or Australia. This makes it the only game in the Wii series that wasn't available in those places. In September 2008, the game was re-released in Japan. It became a downloadable game called Tsūshin Taikyoku: World Chess on WiiWare. WiiWare was a service where you could download games directly to your Wii.

How to Play Wii Chess
Wii Chess is a bit different from other games in the Wii series. It's the only one you can play using the Wii Classic Controller. You don't use the Wii Remote's pointer to move pieces. Instead, you use the D-pad on the Classic Controller to move your chess pieces around the board.
Learning Chess with Wii Chess
Wii Chess has helpful features for players who are new to chess. It can show you how each chess piece moves. This is great for learning the basics of the game. You can also record your games. This means you can watch them again later. Watching your old games can help you learn from your moves.
Playing Online and Customizing Your Game
Players used to be able to play Wii Chess online against other people. This was possible through the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service. Players of Wii Chess could even play against people who owned the Japanese WiiWare version. That version was called Tsūshin Taikyoku: World Chess.
The game uses a special computer program called an engine. This engine helps the computer play chess. Wii Chess also has 9 different themes. Each theme changes the look of the board and the chess pieces. You can also create your own custom name in the game. When you select a chess piece, the game shows you where it can move. This is another helpful feature for beginners. The game also offers hints to guide new players.
