The History of Wild Kitty Roller Coaster
Wild Kitty had an interesting journey before arriving at Frontier City. It first opened at Elitch Gardens in Denver, Colorado.
Early Years and Name Changes
The ride first opened at Elitch Gardens on May 27, 1995. Back then, it was known as Wild Kitten. This name stayed for a few years. In 1999, Six Flags bought the park. They changed the ride's name to Great Chase. This new name was part of a theme based on the famous Looney Tunes characters.
Later, in 2007, a company called PARC Management bought Elitch Gardens. They decided to remove the Looney Tunes theme from the park. Because of this, the Great Chase ride needed a new name. It was then called Tombstone Tumbler. Just one year later, in 2008, the park changed its name again to Cactus Coaster.
Moving to Frontier City
In late 2012, the Cactus Coaster was taken down from Elitch Gardens. It was then moved to Frontier City in Oklahoma. There, it replaced an older roller coaster that was also named Wild Kitty. The "new" Wild Kitty opened at Frontier City in 2013. It continued to entertain riders until the end of the 2018 season. After it closed, a different ride, Frankie’s Mine Train, was built in its spot.
What Was the Wild Kitty Ride Like?
Wild Kitty was a simple and fun roller coaster, perfect for younger riders. It was known as a "junior" roller coaster.
Ride Layout and Experience
The ride had a single lift hill. This is the part that slowly pulls the coaster train to the top. After the lift hill, the train would go down several small "bunny hills." These are small bumps that give a gentle up-and-down feeling. The track was shaped like an oval. The train would go around this oval track three times during each ride. It was a smooth and enjoyable experience for kids.
