History of Wilhoit

Wilhoit got its name from a man named Frank Wilhoit. In the mid-1920s, a new road was being built. This road would connect the cities of Phoenix and Prescott. It passed through smaller towns like Congress and Yarnell.

Frank Wilhoit helped build parts of this road. He then decided to settle in the area with his wife, Christina. They built a gas station and a garage on one side of the road. On the other side, they opened a restaurant.

Mr. Wilhoit ran the garage, and Mrs. Wilhoit managed the restaurant. Both businesses were very busy. Travelers needed places to eat and get their cars fixed. Car tires in the 1920s often had trouble on gravel roads.

Around 1930, the Wilhoit family moved to Wickenburg. However, the small area they had built up kept their name. Over time, Wilhoit became known for its many mobile homes.
