William McDowell-White, born on April 13, 1998, is a professional basketball player from Australia. He plays for JL Bourg in France's top basketball league, the LNB Pro A. William started his career in Australia's NBL in 2016 with the Sydney Kings. He also played in Germany and the NBA G League before joining the New Zealand Breakers in 2021.

Early Life and Basketball Start

William McDowell-White was born in Brisbane, Australia. He comes from an Indigenous Australian family, specifically the Arrernte. His father, Darryl White, was a famous Australian rules football player. He played for the Brisbane Bears/Lions and won three championships.

William grew up playing Australian rules football. He was even part of the Brisbane Lions' talent program when he was 13. But at age 15, he decided to focus completely on basketball.

Playing for the Brisbane Spartans

In 2014 and again from 2016 to 2017, William played for the Brisbane Spartans. This team was part of the SEABL (South East Australian Basketball League). In 2017, the Spartans moved to the QBL, and William continued to play for them.

In 2016, William planned to play college basketball in the United States for the Fresno State Bulldogs. However, he could not meet the academic requirements, so he returned to Australia.

Professional Basketball Journey

William McDowell-White has played for several teams around the world. His journey began in Australia, then took him to Germany, the United States, and now France.

Joining the Sydney Kings (2016–2017)

In December 2016, William joined the Sydney Kings in Australia's NBL. He was a development player for the rest of the 2016–17 season. This role helps young players train with a professional team.

Playing in Germany (2017–2019)

In July 2017, William signed a four-year contract with Brose Bamberg. This team plays in the Basketball Bundesliga, which is Germany's top basketball league. He was often sent to play for Baunach Young Pikes, which is Brose Bamberg's development team. Baunach played in the German 2nd Division.

In the 2017–18 season, William was named the ProA Young Player of the Year while playing for Baunach. He briefly considered entering the 2018 NBA draft but decided to return to Brose Bamberg for the 2018–19 season. He spent most of that season again with Baunach.

In May 2019, William also played one game for the Southern Districts Spartans in the QBL.

Time in the NBA G League (2019–2021)

After the 2019 NBA draft, William was not chosen by any NBA team. However, he signed a contract with the Houston Rockets and played for them in the 2019 NBA Summer League. He later joined the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, which is the Rockets' team in the NBA G League. He had an injury in November 2019 and was out for several weeks.

During 2020, William played for the RedCity Roar in the Queensland State League. He then returned to the NBA G League for the 2020–21 season, playing for the Vipers again.

Success with the New Zealand Breakers (2021–2024)

On March 13, 2021, William signed with the New Zealand Breakers. On April 16, 2021, he achieved a rare feat: a triple-double. He scored 13 points, had 14 assists, and grabbed 10 rebounds in a win against the Brisbane Bullets. He was only the second player in Breakers' history to get a triple-double.

William re-signed with the Breakers for the 2021–22 NBL season and again for the 2022–23 NBL season. On April 11, 2023, he signed a new two-year deal with the team. He missed the start of the 2023–24 NBL season due to a hand injury. Later, in November 2023, he was out for six weeks with a fractured leg bone called a fibula. He left the Breakers after the 2023–24 season.

Moving to Europe (2024–Present)

On May 15, 2024, William signed a two-year contract with Alba Berlin, another top team in Germany's Basketball Bundesliga.

As of July 7, 2025, he signed with JL Bourg of the LNB Pro A in France.
