William McDowell-White (born 13 April 1998) is an Australian professional basketball player. He plays for Alba Berlin in Germany. This team is part of the German Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) and the EuroLeague. Will started his career in Australia's NBL in 2016. He then played in Germany and the NBA G League before joining the New Zealand Breakers in 2021.

Early Life and Basketball Journey

Will McDowell-White was born in Brisbane, Australia. His family is from the Indigenous Australian Arrernte people. His father, Darryl White, was a famous Australian rules football player. He won three championships with the Brisbane Bears/Lions.

Will first played Australian rules football for Coorparoo. At 13, he joined the Brisbane Lions' special training program. But by age 15, he decided to focus only on basketball.

In 2014 and 2016, Will played basketball for the Brisbane Spartans. This was in a league called the SEABL. He played for them again in 2017 when they joined the QBL.

Professional Basketball Career

Playing for the Sydney Kings (2016–2017)

In December 2016, Will joined the Sydney Kings. This team plays in Australia's top league, the NBL. He was a "development player," which means he was a younger player learning from the main team. He played with them for the rest of the 2016–17 season.

Time in Germany with Brose Bamberg (2017–2019)

In July 2017, Will signed a four-year contract with Brose Bamberg. This is a big team in Germany's top basketball league, the Basketball Bundesliga. He was first sent to play for their "farm team," Baunach Young Pikes. This team plays in Germany's second division.

Will was called back to play for Brose Bamberg in December 2017. While playing for Baunach, he was named the ProA Young Player of the Year in 2018. He later returned to Brose Bamberg for the 2018–19 season. He spent most of that season playing for Baunach again.

In May 2019, Will also played one game for the Southern Districts Spartans in the QBL.

NBA G League and RedCity Roar (2019–2021)

Will hoped to join the NBA in 2019, but he was not chosen in the draft. He then signed a contract with the Houston Rockets and played for them in the NBA Summer League. He later joined the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. This team is connected to the Rockets and plays in the NBA G League. The G League is like a stepping stone to the NBA. Will had an injury in November and couldn't play for a few weeks.

In 2020, Will played for the RedCity Roar in the Queensland State League. He chose to go back to the NBA G League for the 2020–21 season. He played for the Vipers again in early 2021.

Success with the New Zealand Breakers (2021–2024)

On 13 March 2021, Will signed with the New Zealand Breakers. This team also plays in Australia's NBL. On 16 April 2021, he had an amazing game. He scored 13 points, gave 14 assists, and grabbed 10 rebounds. This is called a "triple-double." He was only the second player in Breakers' history to achieve this!

Will signed new contracts with the Breakers in 2021, 2022, and 2023. He missed the start of the 2023–24 NBL season because of a hand injury. Later, he broke a bone in his leg and was out for six weeks. He left the Breakers after the 2023–24 season.

Joining Alba Berlin (2024–Present)

On May 15, 2024, Will McDowell-White signed a two-year contract with Alba Berlin. This is a German team that plays in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL).

Playing for the National Team

Will has also played for Australia's national basketball teams. In 2013, he played in the FIBA Oceania Under-16 Championship. Two years later, he played for Australia in the 2015 FIBA Under-19 World Championship.

In June 2022, Will was chosen to play for the "Boomers," which is the nickname for Australia's senior men's national team. He played in the World Cup Qualifiers.
