Willhoit is a small, unincorporated community in Ozark County, Missouri, in the United States. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city. It's found about eight miles north of Gainesville. You can find Willhoit just east of Route 5 on a local county road. The community is nestled in a valley where two creeks, Ludecker Creek and Barren Fork Creek, meet.
History of Willhoit
The area that is now Willhoit has an interesting history with its post office. In 1895, a post office was opened here. It was first named Arp, after a local storekeeper.
Later, in 1908, the post office's name was changed to Wilhoit. This new name honored a person named J. W. Wilhoit. After some time, a different postmaster decided to change the spelling slightly to Willhoit. The post office served the community for many years before it finally closed down in 1974.
