William Edwin Harvey (born August 6, 1871 – died January 13, 1922) was an American lawyer and a brave officer in the United States Army. He lived most of his life near Washington, D.C..
About William E. Harvey
William Edwin Harvey was born on August 6, 1871, in Kirkwood, Missouri. He studied law at Columbian University, which is now called George Washington University Law School. He earned his first law degree in 1893 and another advanced law degree in 1894.
After finishing his studies, Harvey worked as a lawyer in Washington, D.C. He was part of a law firm called King and King and Associates for many years, from 1893 to 1919.
Military Career
William Harvey also had an important military career. He joined the District of Columbia National Guard in 1890. The National Guard is a part of the U.S. armed forces that helps in emergencies and supports the regular army.
He worked his way up through the ranks in the National Guard. On June 4, 1915, he became a brigadier general. This is a high-ranking officer in the army. He was put in charge of the district's militia, which is like a local army.
Later, on August 22, 1917, he became a brigadier general in the national army. He took command of the 75th Infantry Brigade at Camp Shelby. He was then moved to lead another group called the First Provisional Brigade Army Troops. William Harvey was honorably discharged from the army on May 9, 1918. This means he left the army with a good record.
Later Life
William Harvey lived in the Chevy Chase area of Washington, D.C., until he passed away. He died on January 13, 1922. He was buried at Arlington National Cemetery, a special place where many American heroes are laid to rest.
