William George Eveleigh (born May 11, 1868 – died January 13, 1950) was an English organist. An organist is a musician who plays the organ, a very large musical instrument often found in churches. He was well-known for his important work at Saint Finbarre's Cathedral in Cork, Ireland.

Early Life and Education
William George Eveleigh was born in Meerut, India. His father, F.C. Henry Eveleigh, was a Captain in the Royal Horse Artillery, which is a part of the army.
William went to school at Cranleigh and Peterhouse Cambridge. He loved music and studied it deeply. In 1895, he earned a special music degree called a doctorate from Queen's College, Oxford.
In 1894, William married Louise. They started a family and had four children together.
His Musical Career
Before coming to Cork, William George Eveleigh worked as an organist in other places. He held positions in Bramley, Hampshire, and Holywell, North Wales. He also worked at the Holy Trinity Episcopal church in Ayr, Scotland.
Working at St. Fin Barre's Cathedral
In 1903, William George Eveleigh moved to Cork, Ireland. He became the choirmaster and organist at St. Fin Barre's Cathedral. A choirmaster is someone who leads and trains a choir, which is a group of singers. He took over this role from another musician named John Christopher Marks.
William stayed at St. Fin Barre's Cathedral for many years, until 1922. After he left, one of his students, Jonathan Thomas Horne, took over his job. Jonathan continued in the role until 1977.
His Compositions
Besides playing the organ and leading the choir, William George Eveleigh also wrote music. He composed church music and pieces for instruments. He even wrote a five-act opera, which is a big musical play, called The Valkyrie.
Later Life
In 1922, William George Eveleigh retired and moved back to England. He passed away in Bristol in 1950, at the age of 81.
