Early Life and Education

William Fey was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States, on November 6, 1942. He decided to join the Capuchin Franciscans, a group of Catholic priests and brothers. He made his first promise to the order on July 14, 1963. He made his final promise on July 14, 1966. He became a priest on October 19, 1968.

His leaders sent him to Oxford University in England. There, he earned a special degree in Philosophy.

Teaching and Service

After his studies, Bishop Fey taught Philosophy at different schools. He taught at St. Fidelis Seminary College in Herman, Pennsylvania. He also taught at Borromeo College in Ohio.

Later, he moved to Papua New Guinea to teach Philosophy at a seminary. A seminary is a school where people train to become priests. He then spent two years teaching in Zambia before returning to Papua New Guinea.

Becoming a Bishop

On June 8, 2010, William Fey was chosen to be the bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kimbe. Kimbe is a city in Papua New Guinea. He officially became a bishop on October 10 of that same year.

In June 2012, Bishop Fey made a special visit to Pope Benedict XVI in Rome. This visit is called an "Ad Limina" visit. It is a tradition for bishops to visit the Pope and report on their diocese.

Work in Kimbe

As a bishop, William Fey worked hard to help his community. He was planning to build a training center in his diocese. This center would help teach people about the Catholic faith.

He also worked with the local government in New Britain. They asked him to help set up a college for teachers. This shows how much he cared about education and his community.

Bishop Fey had connections with other important Capuchin leaders. Cardinal Sean O'Malley and Bishop Donald Francis Lippert also started their religious lives with the Capuchins in Pittsburgh.
