William Harry Hay, 19th Earl of Erroll (born May 3, 1823 – died December 3, 1891) was a Scottish nobleman. He held the title of Earl of Erroll, which is a very old and important title in Scotland. Before he became the Earl, he was known as Lord Hay and then Lord Kilmarnock.
Early Life and Family
William Harry Hay was born on May 3, 1823. He was the only son of four children. His parents were William Hay, 18th Earl of Erroll and Lady Elizabeth FitzClarence.
His mother, Lady Elizabeth, was the daughter of King William IV and a famous actress named Dora Bland. This made William Harry Hay the grandson of a king! He had three sisters: Lady Ida, Lady Agnes, and Lady Alice. Lady Agnes's son later married Princess Louise, who was the daughter of King Edward VII.
Career and Service
William Harry Hay had an interesting career. From 1832 to 1839, he served as a Page of Honour. This was a special role where he attended to the King and Queen. He served his grandfather, King William IV, from 1832 to 1837. After King William IV passed away, he continued to serve Queen Victoria, who was his grandfather's niece, until 1839.
Later, from 1841 to 1860, he joined the British Army and served his country.
Personal Life

On September 20, 1848, William Harry Hay married Eliza Amelia Gore. She was the eldest daughter of General Sir Charles Stephen Gore. Eliza Amelia Gore later became a Lady of the Bedchamber to Queen Alexandra, who was the wife of King Edward VII.
William and Eliza had seven children together:
- Hon. Charles Gore Hay (1850–1850), who sadly passed away as a baby.
- Charles Gore Hay, 20th Earl of Erroll (1852–1927), who became the next Earl.
