William Henry Huddle (1847–1892) was an American painter. He is well-known for his painting of Davy Crockett. This famous portrait hangs in the Texas State Capitol building. Huddle also painted a picture showing the surrender of Antonio López de Santa Anna. The government of Texas asked Huddle to paint official portraits of the state's leaders.

William Henry Huddle was born on February 12, 1847. His parents were Stephen G. and Nancy Foster Huddle. He was born in Wytheville, Virginia.

Early Life and Training

William Huddle was part of the Confederate States Army. After this, he moved to Texas with his family. He learned how to paint at the National Academy of Design. This school is in New York City. He also studied art in Munich, Germany.

Family and Later Years

In 1889, William Huddle married Nannie Carver. She was also an artist and a sculptor. They had one daughter together. William Huddle passed away on March 23, 1892. He is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin, Texas. Nannie passed away in 1951 and is buried next to him.
