William Wang (Chinese: 王蔚; pinyin: Wáng Wèi) is a successful businessman from Taiwan and America. He is famous for starting and leading the company Vizio. Vizio makes popular electronics like televisions.

Growing Up and Learning
William Wang was born in Taipei, Taiwan. When he was 12 years old, his family moved to Hawaii, United States. Two years later, they moved again to California. He went to the University of Southern California. In 1986, he finished his degree in electrical engineering. This means he learned how to design and build electronic systems.
Starting Vizio
A New Beginning
In 2000, William Wang was in a plane crash but survived. This difficult experience made him think about his life and what he wanted to do next. Within two years, he decided to close his other businesses. He then focused on entering the television market.
The Idea for Vizio
In 2001, a company called Gateway, Inc. asked William Wang for help. They wanted to create a plan for selling televisions. Ted Waitt, who was Gateway's chairman, had been a customer of Wang's old company. He became a mentor to Wang.
Wang's team helped Gateway create a 42-inch plasma TV system. It was priced at $2999. At that time, similar TVs often cost more than $6000. Soon after this, Wang decided to start his own television company.
Building a Company
In 2002, William Wang started a company called V Inc. He began with Laynie Newsome, Ken Lowe, and $600,000. His main idea was to offer good quality products at low prices. He also wanted to provide excellent customer support. To make this work, he kept his company's operations very simple and efficient.
Later, the company's name, V Inc., was hard for people to say. So, he renamed it VIZIO Inc. This was the same name they used for their plasma TV. Today, VIZIO is one of the biggest sellers of LCD HDTVs in North America. The company earns billions of dollars each year.
