Willie Kemp's Basketball Journey
High School Star
Willie Kemp was a fantastic basketball player in high school. He played for Bolivar Central in Tennessee. In 2006, he was named Tennessee's Class AA Mr. Basketball. This award goes to the best high school player in the state.
He also won "The Jackson Sun" All-West Tennessee Player of the Year. Willie helped his team win two state championships. They won the Tennessee Class AA state titles in 2004 and 2005. He was even named the tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 2005.
During his four years, his team had an amazing record. They won 117 games and only lost 25! Willie scored over 1,900 points in his high school career. He also made over 800 assists, helping his teammates score. Experts rated him as one of the top point guards in the country.
College Days at Memphis
After high school, Willie Kemp played college basketball for the University of Memphis. He was part of the Memphis Tigers team. This team was very strong.
In 2008, Willie and his team made it to the NCAA Finals. This is a huge achievement in college basketball. It means they were one of the top two teams in the entire country!
Willie played in many games for the Tigers. In one season, he played in 40 games. This set a new school record for most games played in a single season. He was known for being a smart player. He often came off the bench as the team's "sixth man." This means he was one of the first players to come into the game. He helped his team a lot with his assists and three-point shots.
Playing Pro Basketball
After college, Willie Kemp became a professional basketball player. He played for many teams around the world. He played in different countries like Latvia, Poland, Romania, and Cyprus.
In February 2014, he joined BK Ventspils in Latvia. He helped them win the Latvian Basketball League championship that year. This was a big win for him and his team.
Later, in August 2014, he signed with Trefl Sopot in Poland. In November 2016, he won another important championship. He won the Arabian Cup of the Champions Clubs with Etoile Sportive du Sahel. Willie played for several other teams, including Sigal Prishtina and Keravnos.
The Basketball Tournament
In 2018, Willie Kemp played in a special event called The Basketball Tournament. This is a yearly basketball tournament where teams compete for a large prize. Willie played for a team called "Team Memphis State."
He played well in the tournament. He averaged 3.5 points, 1.5 assists, and 1.5 rebounds per game. His team made it to the second round of the tournament. They played hard but were eventually defeated by "Team DRC."
