How Willmot Got Its Name
The name Willmot comes from a person named Thomas Willmot. He lived from 1851 to 1938. Thomas Willmot was an important leader in the local government. He was chosen as the first President of the Blacktown Shire Council. This is like being the main leader of the local council for the Blacktown area.
Thomas Willmot served as the Shire President for several years. He was in charge from 1906 to 1910, and then again from 1912 to 1913.
Choosing the Suburb's Name
A housing area was built in Willmot in 1971. It was first planned to be called "St Johns." However, there was already another suburb in Sydney named "St Johns Park." To avoid confusion, the name Willmot was chosen instead. This way, the new suburb honored Thomas Willmot and had a unique name.
