History of Willow Creek

The community of Willow Creek started in 1864. It quickly grew because of a gold mining boom in a place nearby called Norwegian Gulch. Many people came hoping to find gold.

Later, in 1883, the Northern Pacific Railroad built tracks through Willow Creek. This helped the town connect with other places and transport goods.

Willow Creek is found in the western part of Gallatin County. It sits where the valley of Willow Creek (which is a stream) meets the valley of the Jefferson River.

The community is about 6 miles (9.7 km) southwest of Three Forks. It is also about 7 miles (11.3 km) southwest of Interstate 90, a major highway.
