Willow Shields (born June 1, 2000) is an American actress. She is famous for playing Primrose Everdeen in The Hunger Games movies. These popular science fiction adventure films were released from 2012 to 2015.

Willow Shields started acting with a small part in the TV show In Plain Sight in 2009. She also had a supporting role in the TV movie Beyond the Blackboard in 2011. After The Hunger Games series, she became well-known for starring in the fantasy film Into the Rainbow (2017). She also played Lorian in Woodstock or Bust (2019) and Serena in the Netflix show Spinning Out (2020).

Early Life

Willow Shields was born on June 1, 2000, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her parents are Carrie and Rob Shields. Her father is an art teacher. Willow has an older brother named River and a twin sister named Autumn. Both of her siblings are also actors.

Willow Shields' Acting Journey

Starting Out and The Hunger Games (2008–2015)

Willow Shields began her acting career in 2008. Her first job was a small voice role in a short film called Las Vegas New Mexico 1875. In 2009, she appeared on TV for the first time. She played Lisa Rogan in the USA drama series In Plain Sight.

In 2011, Willow was in the television film Beyond the Blackboard. She acted alongside Emily VanCamp in this movie. Willow played a homeless child named Grace.

Her big break came in April 2011 when she was cast in The Hunger Games. This was her first major movie role. She played Primrose Everdeen, a very important supporting character. The movie was released in March 2012. The Hunger Games became a huge success and broke many box-office records. It was one of the highest-earning films of that year. Critics and audiences loved it. This movie helped Willow become widely recognized. She said that "just growing up as the character is going to be really fun."

Willow continued to play Primrose in the rest of The Hunger Games series. The second movie, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, was the highest-earning film of 2013. It was also the most liked movie in the series. Willow was nominated for a Young Hollywood Award in 2014 for her acting in it.

She played Primrose again in the last two movies, Mockingjay Part 1 (2014) and Mockingjay Part 2 (2015). Both films were very successful with critics and at the box office. All four Hunger Games movies together earned almost $3 billion. This makes it one of the highest-earning film series ever. For her role in Mockingjay Part 2, she was nominated for an MTV Award.

Dancing With The Stars and Other Roles (2016–Present)

In 2012, it was announced that Willow Shields would star in a fantasy film called The Wonder. This movie was filmed in China and New Zealand. It was later released as Into the Rainbow in 2017 at different international film festivals.

In February 2015, Willow was chosen to compete on Season 20 of the reality show Dancing with the Stars. Her professional dance partner was Mark Ballas. At 14 years old, she was the youngest person to ever compete on the show. The previous youngest was Zendaya, who was 16. Willow and Mark were eliminated in the seventh week. They finished in seventh place, even though they often received high scores from the judges.

In 2018, Willow Shields starred in the coming-of-age independent film Woodstock or Bust. She played the character Lorian. Her acting in this movie received good reviews. She won an award at the Artemis Women in Action Film Festival for her performance.

In December 2018, it was announced that Willow was cast as Serena Baker in the Netflix original series Spinning Out. This show is about figure skating. Professional stunt actor Kim Deguise Léveillée performed the skating stunts for Willow. Spinning Out was released in 2020 and received mostly positive reviews. However, the show was canceled after one season.
