History of Willow Shoals
A long time ago, Willow Shoals was a busier place. A Post Office opened there on September 20, 1905. The first Postmaster, who was in charge of the mail, was John W. Stephenson.
Just a couple of months later, on November 25, 1905, the Post Office name was shortened to just Willow. However, the Post Office eventually closed down in 1956. After that, people in Willow Shoals got their mail from Heidelberg, Kentucky.
Willow Shoals and the Railroad
Willow Shoals was also a stop for trains. It was on the Louisville and Atlantic Railroad line. Later, it became a stop for the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. Trains continued to stop there until at least the 1930s.
Today, the train tracks that go through Willow Shoals are owned by CSX Transportation. These tracks are part of their Eastern Kentucky Subdivision, but they are not currently being used.
