Wills Point is a city in Van Zandt County, Texas, United States. In 2020, about 3,747 people lived there. It is known as "The Bluebird Capital of Texas."

History of Wills Point

Wills Point was started in 1873. It is named after William Wills, an early settler who came around 1848. William Wills bought a cabin there in 1852. The "Point" part of the name might come from the shape of the trees near the cabin. Some people also think it relates to the area's higher ground.

An engineer named General Grenville M. Dodge helped plan the city. In the 1920s, local people laid red bricks on the downtown streets. These bricks are still used today. Many buildings in downtown Wills Point are over one hundred years old. These include the original Wills cabin, a drug store, a dry goods store, and a law office. In 1995, Governor George W. Bush officially called Wills Point the Bluebird Capital of Texas.

The Majestic Movie Theater opened in 1926. Karl C. LyBrand started it. His family ran it until it closed on October 4, 2010. It was the oldest movie theater in Texas run by the same family for so long.

The Bruce & Human Drug Company was built in 1879. It is on the corner of 4th Street and James. This is the oldest family-owned drug store in Texas.

Wills Point is also the final home for Trailblazer. This was the first monorail system in the United States that was used by the public.

GFA World, a Christian missionary group, is located about seven miles outside the city.
