Wimer is a small community in Jackson County, Oregon, United States. It is an "unincorporated community," meaning it doesn't have its own city government. It's also a "census-designated place" (CDP), which means the government counts its population for statistics.

Wimer is located along Evans Creek. It sits north of the city of Rogue River. In 2020, about 690 people lived in Wimer.

History of Wimer

The community of Wimer was named after a relative of William Wimer. William Wimer was a newspaper editor in Grants Pass in the late 1800s. Grants Pass is about 17 miles (27 km) southwest of Wimer.

William Wimer also helped set up a post office in the community. The post office was open until 1909. Simon E. Simpkins was the first person to be in charge of the post office.

The Wimer Bridge

One of the most famous landmarks in Wimer is the Wimer Bridge. It is a special kind of bridge called a covered bridge, which means it has a roof and sides. The bridge crosses Evans Creek.

Bridge Collapse and Rebuilding

The original Wimer Bridge was built in 1927. Sadly, this bridge fell into the creek in 2003. But the community worked to replace it.

In 2008, a new bridge was built. It looked very much like the old one but was made with stronger materials. The project got help from federal money and local people who volunteered their time.

New Bridge Features

The new Wimer Bridge opened to traffic in February 2008. It is a one-way bridge, just like the original. It is 17 feet (5.2 meters) wide. The bridge can hold up to 10 tons of weight.
