Windsor is a village in Dane County, Wisconsin. It used to be a town. In 2020, about 8,754 people lived there.
Within Windsor, you'll find smaller communities. These include Lake Windsor, Morrisonville, and Token Creek.
Windsor officially became a village on November 3, 2015. Before that, it was known as a "town." Part of the town was also a special area called a census-designated place. Windsor is part of the larger Madison metropolitan statistical area.
There was once a disagreement with the Village of DeForest about land. In 2004, they reached an agreement. Some land went to DeForest, and some stayed with Windsor. They also traded other less populated areas.

History of Windsor
Early Settlers in Windsor
People first visited the Windsor area in the late 1830s. The very first settler was William Lawrence. He came from Vermont in 1841. Later, he fought in the Civil War. James Morrison settled in the town in 1843. His settlement is now known as Morrisonville.
