Windsor Sculpture Park (27919974822)
The park with Ambassador Bridge behind

The Windsor Sculpture Park is a cool outdoor art gallery in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. It used to be called the Odette Sculpture Park. Here, you can see 35 big, modern sculptures made by famous artists like Elisabeth Frink, Gerald Gladstone, and Sorel Etrog.

This amazing park stretches along the Detroit River, from Assumption Park to Centennial Park. It's located between the Ambassador Bridge and the Art Gallery of Windsor.

The park was made possible thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Louis Odette and the P & L Odette Foundation. The city's Parks and Recreation Department takes care of the park itself, while the Cultural Affairs Department looks after the sculptures to keep them in great shape.

Explore the Park: Free Tours!

The City of Windsor offers free guided tours of this five-kilometer-long outdoor gallery. You can ride in "The Art Cart," which is an electric golf cart that holds five people. These tours are first-come, first-served. The Art Cart tours start near the giant Canadian Flag at the end of Ouellette Avenue. If you want a tour at a different time, you can book a special tour for a fee.

Amazing Sculptures You'll See

The park is home to many unique sculptures. Here are some of them:

  • Trees, by Toni Putnam
  • Triptych, by Gord Smith (sculptor)

Tembo Day: Help Wash an Elephant!

Every year, the people of Windsor are invited to help wash Tembo, a huge bronze sculpture in the park. Tembo was created by Derrick Stephan Hudson and shows a mother elephant with her two babies.

On "Tembo Day," the City of Windsor asks everyone to help clean the elephants. After a gentle bath with warm water and soap (using toothbrushes!), special Sculpture Conservation Assistants spend a few days putting wax on the sculpture. This wax helps protect Tembo during the winter.

The main goal of Tembo Day is to help people understand why it's so important to take care of and protect the bronze sculptures in the Windsor Sculpture Park. Tembo Day has become well-known in Windsor for bringing the community together. It has even been featured in local news like the Windsor Star and CBC Windsor!
