Winston George Bennett III (born February 9, 1965) is an American former professional basketball player and coach. He played for teams like the Cleveland Cavaliers and later became a coach for college and NBA teams.

Playing Basketball: High School and College Years
Winston Bennett was a top player at Louisville Male High School. In 1983, he was named "Mr. Basketball" for the state of Kentucky. He also received honors like Parade Magazine All-American and McDonald's All-America. He even shared the MVP award with another great player, Dwayne Washington.
Playing for the Kentucky Wildcats
Bennett played college basketball at the University of Kentucky. Fans called him "Steady Bee." In his first year (1983–84), he helped the Wildcats reach the Final Four.
The next season, he continued to play well. In his junior year (1985–86), Bennett was named to the All-NCAA Regional Team. He also made the SEC All-Conference Team. He averaged 12.7 points and 7 rebounds per game. Under coach Eddie Sutton, the Wildcats had an amazing 32–4 record.
After taking a year off to recover from a knee injury, Bennett returned as team captain. In his senior year, he averaged 15.2 points and 7.8 rebounds. He again earned All-SEC honors. With teammate Rex Chapman, Bennett helped the Wildcats win their 37th SEC title. They finished with a 27–6 record and were ranked among the top college teams. They reached the "Sweet Sixteen" in the 1988 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament.
Professional Basketball Career
Winston Bennett, who stands 6 feet, 7 inches tall, was chosen by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 1988 1988 NBA draft. He played three seasons in the NBA, mostly for the Cavaliers.
Before joining the NBA, Bennett played for an Italian club called Teorema Arese in 1988. Then, he played for the Pensacola Tornados in the Continental Basketball Association. His best year in the NBA was his first season with the Cavaliers. He played in 55 games and averaged 6.1 points per game.
Coaching Career Highlights
After his playing career, Bennett became a basketball coach. He worked as an assistant coach at the University of Kentucky from 1995 to 1997. He also coached for the Boston Celtics during the 1997–98 NBA season.
Winning a Championship as a Coach
In 1996, while Bennett was an assistant coach at Kentucky, the Wildcats won the NCAA Championship. The next season, they were the runner-up, making it to the championship game again.
In May 2000, he became the head men's basketball coach at Kentucky State University. In his first season there, he led the team to a conference championship.
Coaching at Mid-Continent University
In May 2007, Bennett was named the head men's basketball coach at Mid-Continent University. This is an NAIA school. He coached there for six seasons. He resigned from his position in June 2013.

Winston Bennett and his wife Peggy live in Louisville, Kentucky. After his coaching career, he started working at an insurance agency in Louisville.
