Wirt is a small town located in Allegany County, New York, United States. It is in the southwestern part of the county. The town is also located east of the city of Olean. In 2020, about 1,059 people lived in Wirt.

History of Wirt
The area that is now the town of Wirt was first settled around 1812. The town itself was officially created in 1838. It was formed from parts of two nearby towns: Bolivar and Friendship.
Geography of Wirt
The United States Census Bureau says that Wirt covers a total area of about 93.25 square kilometers (about 36 square miles). Most of this area, 93.08 square kilometers (35.93 square miles), is land. A small part, 0.17 square kilometers (0.07 square miles), is water.
New York State Route 275 is an important road that runs north and south through the town.

The Town of Wirt has a few smaller communities and places within its borders:
- Inavale – This is a location found on the eastern edge of the town.
- Richburg – Part of the village of Richburg is located near the southern border of Wirt.
- West Notch – This is a small hamlet (a tiny village) located south of the main Wirt hamlet. It is on County Road 34.
- Wirt – This is the main hamlet (small community) of Wirt. It is located on County Road 34, which is also known as West Notch Road and Evans Street. It is north of Richburg.
