Woden is a small community located in Nacogdoches County, Texas. It is known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own city government. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

Woden's Story

This area of Nacogdoches County was first settled in the 1830s by people who moved from the Old South. Back then, it was known by different names. First, it was called Jacobs, and later, it became King's Store.

In 1886, the community got its own post office. At that time, it was officially named Woden. This name came from an Old English god named Woden.

In the 1890s, something important happened: a new railroad was built, but it didn't go through Woden. So, the people of Woden decided to move their entire community closer to the railroad. They called this new location Oval. However, by 1895, the town at its current spot was renamed Woden once more.

For many years, until the 1930s, the main way people made a living in Woden was through logging. This meant cutting down trees for wood. After that, logging became less important. Today, farming is a big part of the local economy and business in the region.

Even though Woden is an unincorporated community, it still has important services for its residents. It has its own post office, which uses the ZIP code 75978. In the year 2000, about 137 people lived in the area covered by this ZIP code.

Woden is also home to a school that teaches students from kindergarten all the way through 12th grade. The community has several churches, including Baptist, Presbyterian, and United Pentecostal churches. There is also a volunteer fire department that helps keep everyone safe.
