Wolf Lake (also known as Gooch Aa) is a beautiful lake found in Yukon, Canada. It's located close to the town of Teslin. The area around the lake is a mix of open, treeless tundra, green forests, and tall mountains. People often visit Wolf Lake to fish for its famous lake trout.

Protecting Wolf Lake

In 1998, some important groups started talking about protecting the Wolf Lake area. These groups included Parks Canada (who look after national parks), the Teslin Tlingit Council (a local Indigenous government), and the Teslin Renewable Resources Council (who manage local natural resources).

What is a Feasibility Study?

They discussed doing a feasibility study. This is like a big research project to see if an idea, like creating a national park, is possible and a good idea.

Wolf Lake Becomes Protected

Later in 1998, the Yukon government decided that Wolf Lake should be a protected area. This means the land and water are special and need to be looked after to keep them healthy for wildlife and people.

Community's Thoughts on a Park

The Yukon Bureau of Statistics asked people in the area what they thought about making Wolf Lake a national park. Most people liked the idea. However, some worried that a park might make it harder for them to follow their traditional ways of life.

Exploring Wolf Lake Lodge

On the western side of Wolf Lake, there's a special place called Wolf Lake Lodge. It's in a quiet bay, offering visitors a peaceful and calm experience.

Fishing at the Lodge

People staying at the lodge can enjoy amazing fishing. Wolf Lake is known for very large lake trout, some weighing up to 60 pounds! You can also catch Northern pike, Arctic Grayling, and whitefish here.

Wildlife Around the Lake

The area around Wolf Lake is perfect for nature lovers. You can often see many animals like moose, eagles, and caribou. Sometimes, if you're lucky, you might even spot wolves, lynx, and bears!

The Wolf River

The Wolf River flows out of Wolf Lake. It's the main river leaving the lake and eventually flows into Teslin Lake.

Fishing in the River

The Wolf River is full of Arctic Grayling. Some people even say it's one of the best places in the world to fish for natural Grayling.
