Wolfblood is a British-German fantasy teen drama TV show. It was made for young people aged 12-15. Debbie Moon created the series. It was a joint project between CBBC and ZDF/ZDFE.

The show is about a special group of creatures called wolfbloods. They look like humans but have super senses. They can also turn into wolves whenever they want. However, during a full moon, their change into a wolf is not controlled. They are weakest during a new moon, which is called "the dark of the moon." The series shows their daily lives and how they try to keep their secret safe. Each season brings new characters and ideas to the story.

Wolfblood has won several awards. In 2013, it won the Royal Television Society Award for Children's Drama. It also won the Banff Rockie Award for 'Best Children's Programme (fiction)' in the same year. In 2015, the show won the British Screenwriters' Award for 'Best British Children's Television'.

Story of Wolfblood

The show's story follows the lives of wolfbloods as they try to fit in with humans.

Season 1: Keeping the Secret

The first season is about Maddy Smith and Rhydian Morris. They try to live normal human lives while hiding their wolfblood secret. Maddy lives with her wolfblood family in Stoneybridge, Northumbria. She is getting ready for her first transformation. When Rhydian comes to Bradlington High School, Maddy realizes he is also a wolfblood. Rhydian lives with a foster family and only recently started changing into a wolf. Maddy's family pretends he is a distant cousin to help him. Rhydian becomes friends with Maddy's best friends, Tom and Shannon, who do not know their secret. By the end of the season, Tom and Shannon learn the truth.

A short webisode called The Scape Goat happens between season 1 and 2.

Season 2: New Arrivals and Dangers

Season 2 starts three months later. Jana, a wild wolfblood, comes to Stoneybridge. She says she was sent away from her pack. Jana becomes friends with Maddy, Rhydian, Tom, and Shannon. She loves the human world. Later, she leaves to become the new leader of the wild wolfblood pack.

Shannon starts looking into werewolves. When Maddy is almost hurt because of this, Shannon decides to delete all her research. Another boy, Liam, also starts looking into werewolves. He gets a sample of Maddy's father's DNA. This proves the Smiths are not human. So, Maddy and her family have to leave the country and go to Canada. Maddy says goodbye to her friends and tells Rhydian she loves him.

Seven short webisodes called Jana Bites happen between season 2 and 3. They show Jana's adventures as a pack leader.

Season 3: New Challenges and Discoveries

Season 3 begins two months after Maddy leaves. Rhydian is sad about Maddy being gone. Jana returns from the wild wolfblood pack needing help. She brings new friends with her. Rhydian, Tom, Shannon, and Jana try to focus on life after school.

Rhydian meets Dacia, a wolfblood from a company called Segolia. This company helps wolfbloods and helped Maddy's family. Dacia tells him Maddy and her parents are safe. She offers Rhydian a job at Segolia, which is secretly run by wolfbloods. Segolia is studying wolfblood DNA for medical uses. They are very interested in Jana's wild pack because they have special powers. Dr. Whitewood, who wants to find wolfbloods, returns. Dacia stops her from telling the secret by offering her a job at Segolia. Rhydian must unite the wild wolfblood pack to save their species. The season ends with Rhydian and Maddy meeting again as wolves in Canada.

An animated comic called New Moon Rising is set between season 3 and 4.

Season 4: A New Pack in the City

Season 4 takes place in a big city. Jana moves there and joins her old classmate Katrina, who runs a cafe. Mr. Jeffries, her old head teacher, is now writing books about wolfbloods. The city is not named, but the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle appears in some scenes.

Jana meets three new wolfblood families: Matei and Emilia from Eastern Europe, TJ and his mother Imara, and Selina and her parents. They form a new pack. The wolfblood secret is harder to keep hidden. Jana feels pressure and questions who she can trust. This leads to a big decision that changes everyone's lives.

An animated comic called Hunter's Moon is set between season 4 and 5. Also, ten mini-episodes called Wolfblood Secrets take place. These show characters being interviewed about wolfbloods by two mysterious people.

Season 5: The Secret is Out

Season 5 begins with the wolfblood secret no longer being a secret. The world has changed for Jana, Matei, Selina, TJ, and Imara. They are now the most well-known wolfbloods. Some humans are excited about this new species, while others are scared and hostile. As tensions grow, the wolfbloods face difficult choices.

Making of Wolfblood

Debbie Moon created Wolfblood after seeing the words "wolf" and "blood" in book titles. The BBC asked for children's drama scripts, and her idea was chosen. The show was filmed in the north-east of England. Early filming locations included Hookergate School and the woods around Rowlands Gill. From season 4, filming moved to Heworth Grange Comprehensive and areas near Windy Nook and Newcastle.

Filming for season 1 took place from February to May 2012. A second season was confirmed after the first one ended. Filming for season 2 was from February to May 2013. Season 3 was filmed from February to May 2014 and aired from September to October 2014.
