Wonderful Terrific Monds Jr. (born May 3, 1952) is a former American football player. He played as a defensive back, which is a position on the defense of a football team. He played one season with the San Francisco 49ers in the National Football League (NFL). He also played for the Ottawa Rough Riders in the Canadian Football League (CFL).
A Wonderful Name
Wonder Monds has a very unique name! His full name is Wonderful Terrific Monds Jr. This special name was first given to his father. After his grandparents had several girls, they finally had a son. His father's dad thought it was "wonderful, just terrific" to have a boy. That's how the name came to be!
Growing Up and College Football
Wonder Monds grew up in Fort Pierce, Florida. He went to Fort Pierce Central High School there. After high school, he played college football at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. He was a talented player for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Playing Pro Football
In 1976, Wonder Monds was chosen in the NFL draft. The Pittsburgh Steelers picked him in the fourth round. He also played for the Ottawa Rough Riders in Canada. With the Rough Riders, he helped his team win the 64th Grey Cup in 1976. This is a very important championship in Canadian football.
After playing in Canada, Wonder Monds joined the San Francisco 49ers for one season in 1978. He then returned to play for the Ottawa Rough Riders in 1979.
A Family of Athletes
Wonder Monds comes from a family of athletes. His son, Mario Monds, also played professional football. Mario was a defensive tackle in the NFL. Another son, Wonderful Terrific Monds III, played Minor League Baseball.
