A Look Back at Wood's History

In the summer of 1851, a team from the U.S. government began to survey the land. They measured out the six-mile square area that would later become the Town of Wood.

Later that year, another team marked all the section corners. They walked through forests and waded through swamps. They used tools like a chain and a compass to measure everything. After their work, the surveyor wrote a general description of the area.
