Woodrow "Woody" Sauldsberry Jr. (born July 11, 1934 – died September 3, 2007) was an American professional basketball player. He was known for his time in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Early Life and Basketball Start
Woody Sauldsberry was born in Winnsboro, Louisiana. He grew up to become a talented basketball player. He went to Compton Union High School in California. There, he was a star player on his school's basketball team. After high school, he continued his education and played basketball at Texas Southern University.
NBA Career Highlights
In 1957, Woody Sauldsberry was chosen by the Philadelphia Warriors in the NBA draft. The Warriors are now known as the Golden State Warriors. Even though he was picked in the 8th round, which is quite late, he quickly showed his skills.
Rookie of the Year
In 1958, Woody won the NBA Rookie of the Year award. This was a big deal because he was only the second African American player to win it. He also set a record for being the player picked lowest in the draft to ever win this award. No one has broken that record since!
NBA All-Star
Woody's great playing continued, and in 1959, he was chosen to play in the NBA All-Star Game. This is a special game where the best players from the league compete against each other.
Playing for Different Teams
During his career, Woody Sauldsberry played for several NBA teams. After his time with the Philadelphia Warriors, he played for the St. Louis Hawks, the Chicago Zephyrs, and the Boston Celtics. He even won an NBA championship with the Boston Celtics in 1966.
