Wooster Island is a small island located in the Housatonic River in Orange, Connecticut. No one lives on the island, but people do visit it for different activities.

About Wooster Island

This island is a quiet spot in the river. People sometimes go there to hunt ducks. Fishing is allowed and is considered safe to do. However, it is not safe to collect shellfish, like clams or oysters, because the water is not clean enough. The very southern tip of the island is where the river water starts to get salty.

41°16′50″N 73°04′58″W / 41.28056°N 73.08278°W / 41.28056; -73.08278 Wooster Island is located about halfway between Great Flat Island in Milford and Two Mile Island in Shelton. The island is about 39 feet (12 meters) above sea level. Sometimes, the water around the island has a type of bacteria called E. coli, which means it is not always clean.

Getting to Wooster Island

You can only get to Wooster Island by boat. It is against the rules for boats to go fast when passing the island. They must go at a very slow speed, often called "Slow-No-Wake," from one end of the island to the other.
