History of Worden
How Worden Started
The area where Worden is located was bought by a man named William S. Worden. He was part of a family who were among the first people to settle in Klamath County. William S. Worden planned out the community.
William S. Worden's Role
William S. Worden worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad. He was a "right-of-way agent." This job meant he helped the railroad get the land it needed to build tracks. He did this when the Oregon Eastern Railway (which later became part of Southern Pacific) was building a railroad toward Klamath Falls.
Later, William S. Worden was chosen to be a judge in Klamath County. There was also a "Worden station" near Dallas in Polk County. This station might have also been named after him.
Worden's Post Office
The community of Worden got its own post office in 1910. This was an important step for the community. It meant people could send and receive mail more easily.
Worden Today
In 1990, Worden had a café that was open all day and night. It also had a truck stop. These places were important for travelers and truck drivers using U.S. Route 97.
