Wycliffe K. Grousbeck (born June 13, 1961) is an American business person. He is best known as the main owner and leader (called the governor) of the National Basketball Association's (NBA) team, the Boston Celtics.

Early Life and School

Wyc Grousbeck was born in Worcester, Massachusetts. He went to Noble and Greenough School in Dedham, Massachusetts.

After high school, he studied history at Princeton University, graduating in 1983. While at Princeton, he was part of the lightweight rowing team. His team had a perfect season in 1983, winning both the Ivy League and National championships.

Later, he earned a law degree (called a J.D.) from the University of Michigan Law School in 1986. He also got a business degree (called an M.B.A.) from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 1992.

His Career and the Celtics

Before owning the Celtics, Grousbeck worked for seven years at a company called Highland Capital Partners. This company helped new businesses grow by investing money in them.

In 2002, Wyc Grousbeck started a group called Boston Basketball Partners L.L.C.. This group bought the Boston Celtics basketball team for $360 million. Under his leadership, the Celtics have won two NBA Championships. They won their 17th championship in 2008 and their 18th championship on June 17, 2024. In 2024, they beat the Dallas Mavericks in five games to win the title.

Other Ventures

Wyc Grousbeck is also involved in other important work. In 2010, he became the Chairman of the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (MEE). This is a hospital that does research and helps people with problems related to blindness and deafness. He helped raise $250 million for MEE and helped them join the Mass General Brigham medical system.

In 2013, Grousbeck co-founded Causeway Media Partners, LP. This company invests in sports technology and media businesses. They have invested in companies like Omaze, Inc., Zwift, FloSports, and SeatGeek.

Personal Life

Wyc Grousbeck married Emilia Fazzalari in 2017. Together with other NBA team owners, including basketball legend Michael Jordan, they helped create a tequila brand called Cincoro Tequila, which started in 2019.

In 2022, Princeton University opened a new building for students called Grousbeck Hall. This building was made possible by a donation from the Grousbeck family.

The TV show Extended Family (from 2023) is loosely based on Wyc Grousbeck, his wife, and her ex-husband.
