Wycliffe K. Grousbeck (born June 13, 1961) is an American businessman. He is best known for being the main owner of the Boston Celtics, a famous basketball team in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He has led the team since December 2002.

Early Life and School

Wyc Grousbeck was born in Worcester, Massachusetts. He went to Noble and Greenough School in Dedham, Massachusetts. Later, he studied history at Princeton University and graduated in 1983.

While at Princeton, he was part of the lightweight rowing team. His team had a perfect season in 1983. They won both the Ivy League and National rowing championships. He also earned law and business degrees from other universities.

Wyc Grousbeck spent seven years working at a company called Highland Capital Partners. This company helps new businesses get started.

Buying the Boston Celtics

In 2002, Grousbeck started a group called Boston Basketball Partners L.L.C.. This group bought the Boston Celtics basketball team for $360 million. As the main owner, he helped the Celtics win two more NBA championships. They won in 2008 and again in 2024.

Selling the Celtics Team

After their second win in 2024, Grousbeck and his family decided to sell most of their ownership in the team. On March 20, 2025, he announced the sale for a record $6.1 billion. The team was sold to Bill Chisholm. Grousbeck will still be a Governor for the team until 2028.

Other Business Ventures

Besides the Celtics, Grousbeck has been involved in many other businesses. In 2010, he became the leader of the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (MEE). This hospital does research to help people with blindness and deafness. He helped raise $250 million for MEE.

In 2013, Grousbeck also started a company called Causeway Media Partners, LP. This company invests in sports and media businesses. Some of these include Omaze, Inc., Zwift, and SeatGeek.

Work in Entertainment

Grousbeck has also worked in Hollywood. He helped create and produce a TV show called Extended Family in 2023. This show was loosely based on his own family life. He also helped produce a documentary about the Celtics called "Celtics City." This film was shown in 2025.

Personal Life

Wyc Grousbeck married Emilia Fazzalari in 2017. They joined with other NBA owners to create Cincoro Tequila in 2019.

The Grousbeck family has also given money to help others. They donated funds for a new dormitory at Princeton University, called Grousbeck Hall. Wyc and Emilia also helped create the Fazzalari Sky Bridge for patients at Boston Children’s Hospital. They also support the Grousbeck Boys and Girls Club in Charlestown, Massachusetts.

Grousbeck enjoys playing music. He is a drummer and guitarist who loves rock and blues. He has performed with his band, French Lick, and other groups in Boston and New York City.
