Xie Shaoguang (born on September 15, 1961) is a famous Singaporean actor and chef. He was also a monk for a period. Xie is well-known for his many roles in Chinese TV shows made by MediaCorp Channel 8. He worked full-time for MediaCorp from 1989 to 2005. He rejoined MediaCorp on September 5, 2024, to explore new acting projects.
Many people consider Xie Shaoguang to be one of Singapore's best actors. He won the Star Awards for Best Actor five times. This was a record for 15 years until another actor, Chen Hanwei, won more in 2019.

Acting Career Highlights
Xie Shaoguang started his acting journey in 1989. His first TV series was A Mother's Love. Since then, he has won many awards. He won the Star Awards Best Actor award five times. He also won the Best Supporting Actor award twice. These awards started in 1994.
One of his most famous roles was playing the Chinese folk hero Ji Gong. This was in the 1997 TV series The Legends of Jigong.
Taking a Break from Acting
In 2005, Xie decided to leave the entertainment world. His contract ended in September that year, and he chose not to renew it. He had thought about quitting for several years before this. He shared that he planned to live in Malaysia after retiring. There, he wanted to open a safe place for stray dogs and cats. His last TV show before his break was Baby Blues. This show finished on September 9, 2005.
Returning to the Screen
After a 12-year break, Xie made a public appearance on October 14, 2017. He taught acting classes to younger actors. Xie has said he would act again if the right role came along.
In 2024, he signed with The Celebrity Agency. He was looking for new acting jobs. His former manager, Ivy Low, who is now in charge of the agency, convinced him to return. It was reported that Xie will play a rich but lonely businessman named Lin Huoyan. This will be in a 20-episode drama series called Last Hurrah. Production for this show began in February 2025.
Personal Life Journey
After leaving acting the first time, Xie Shaoguang kept his life very private. He did not accept invitations to public events or TV shows. This included an offer from Singaporean director Anthony Chen. Chen wanted him to star in the award-winning film Ilo Ilo.
Life in Malaysia
Xie later moved to Permas Jaya, Malaysia. In 2013, he became a Buddhist monk there. In 2014, Xie opened an animal welfare center. It was called Animal Paradise and was located in Pekan Nanas, Johor.
Becoming a Chef
In 2016, Singaporean news reported that Xie was no longer a monk. He had become a head chef at a vegetarian restaurant. Xie moved back to Singapore before the COVID-19 pandemic started.
