Xosé Luís Méndez Ferrín, a famous Galician writer.

Xosé Luís Méndez Ferrín was born in Ourense, Spain, on August 7, 1938. He is a well-known writer and poet from Galicia. Many people think he is one of the most important writers in modern Galician literature.

He studied languages and philosophy at universities in Santiago de Compostela and Madrid. Later, he became a doctor in philology, which is the study of language. Ferrín teaches literature at a school in Vigo. He also writes for a newspaper called Faro de Vigo and leads a magazine named A Trabe Ouro.

Ferrín is a member of the Real Academia Galega, which is a special group that studies the Galician language. He was the president of this Academy from 2010 to 2013. He later stepped down from this role. He also has an honorary degree, called Doctor Honoris Causa, from the University of Vigo. In 1999, the Galician Writers Association suggested him for the Nobel Prize in literature. He has won several important awards, like the Galician Critics Prize and the Spanish Critics Prize.

Ferrín's Involvement in Politics

Xosé Luís Méndez Ferrín has always been very involved in politics. He supports different political and social groups, such as Redes Escarlata. He is also part of a literary group called Brais Pinto, which focuses on Galician culture.

He helped start the Unión do Povo Galego (Union of the Galician People). This group believes in an independent Galicia and follows marxist ideas. He was also a member of the Frente Popular Galega (Popular Galician Front) and helped create Galiza Ceibe-OLN.

Ferrín's Literary Works

Ferrín has written many books, both poetry and prose. His first poetry book, Voce na néboa (Voice in the fog), came out in 1957 and made him well-known.
