Yılmaz Erdoğan (born on November 4, 1967) is a famous Turkish filmmaker, actor, and poet. He is well-known for his very popular comedy movie Vizontele (2001) and the TV show Bir Demet Tiyatro (1995–2002/2006–2007). Yılmaz Erdoğan started his own company called BKM Theatre and Film Production. He even won an award for Best Supporting Actor at the 4th AACTA Awards for his role in the movie The Water Diviner (2014).

Early Life and Family

Yılmaz Erdoğan grew up in Ankara before his family moved to Istanbul. His family comes from Kurdish background. In 1987, he left his civil engineering studies at Istanbul Technical University to follow his passion for arts.

His brothers are Mustafa Erdoğan, who created the famous dance group Fire of Anatolia, and Deniz Erdoğan, who writes music for some of Yılmaz's projects. His cousin, Ersin Korkut, is also an actor. His former wife, Belçim Bilgin, is an actress. His daughter, Berfin Erdoğan, appeared in his movie Organize İşler.

Career Highlights

Yılmaz Erdoğan started his career by joining the Nöbetçi Tiyatrosu theatre group. In 1988, he created his own theatre company, Güldüşündürü. There, he put on a successful play he wrote called Kanuni Sultan Süleyman ve Rambo.

He also became the main writer for the long-running TV sketch show Olacak O Kadar, starring Levent Kırca and his wife Oya Başar.

In 1994, Yılmaz Erdoğan co-founded Beşiktaş Cultural Center (Turkish: Beşiktaş Kültür Merkezi) with Necati Akpınar. He became very popular as the character Mükremin Abi in the TV series Bir Demet Tiyatro (1995–2002) on Star TV, where he acted alongside Demet Akbağ. This show was very new because it included the audience.

He continued to have success in theatre with plays and musicals. One of his famous one-man shows was Cebimdeki Kelimeler. He also released a poetry album called Kayıp Kentin Yakışıklısı, which featured seventeen poems with traditional Turkish music.

Yılmaz Erdoğan also created professional sketch comedy groups for TV at BKM Theatre. He directed the sketch show Çok Güzel Hareketler Bunlar, where he was both a writer and an actor. Other sketch shows like Güldür Güldür (directed by Kemal Sunal's son Ali Sunal) and Güldüy Güldüy (directed by Kemal Sunal's daughter Ezo Sunal) also came from BKM.

His biggest successes came with his comedy films Vizontele (2001) and Vizontele Tuuba (2004). He wrote, directed, and starred in both movies, and they broke box-office records. He then made a sequel, Organize İşler (2005), which he also produced. Later, he made Organize İşler: Sazan Sarmalı (2019). In "Vizontele" and "Organize İşler", he worked with famous comedians like Cem Yılmaz, Tolga Çevik, and Ata Demirer.

His popular TV series Bir Demet Tiyatro returned for a second run (2006–2007) on ATV. He also made the Christmas comedy film Neşeli Hayat (2009). He produced other successful comedy films like Eyyvah Eyvah (2010) and Çok Filim Hareketler Bunlar (2010).
