William Joseph Crawford (born January 28, 1984), known as Ya Boy and later Rich Rocka, is an American rapper. He grew up in the Fillmore District of San Francisco, California. He is well-known for his 2011 song "Lock Down", which he made with DJ Drama and featured Akon.
Early Life
William Crawford grew up in the Fillmore District in San Francisco. He went to El Camino High School in South San Francisco. His cousin is the famous football player Stevie Johnson.
Music Career
In 2005, Ya Boy signed with a record label called Done Deal Entertainment. He also worked with SMC Recordings. That year, he released his first album, Rookie of the Year.
In 2006, he joined another record label, The Black Wall Street Records, which was started by the rapper the Game. Ya Boy appeared on their mixtape, The Black Wall Street Journal, Vol. 1. He then started working with popular music producers like Scott Storch and Cool & Dre. Cool & Dre produced his 2008 song, "Holla at Ya Boy".
In 2009, Ya Boy started his own record label called Black Card Music. He then signed a deal with Mack 10's label, Hoo-Bangin' Records. He didn't release any music with them. Instead, in 2010, he signed with Akon's labels, Konvict Muzik and Kon Live Distribution.
In August 2010, he released the song "Party Girls" with Rico Love. Later, in 2011, he released "Lockdown" with DJ Drama and Akon. This song was part of DJ Drama's album, Third Power.
In 2013, William Crawford changed his stage name from Ya Boy to Rich Rocka. He then released a mixtape called Road 2 Rocka on July 4, 2013.
