Yacoub Shaheen (Arabic: يعقوب شاهين) is a talented singer from Palestine. He was born on February 27, 1994. From a young age, Yacoub loved music and took many lessons to become a singer. He became very famous after winning the TV show Arab Idol in 2017. This made him a big star in his home country, Palestine.

About Yacoub Shaheen
His Early Life and Love for Music
Yacoub Shaheen was born in Bethlehem on February 27, 1994. His family has Assyrian roots. Growing up, Yacoub fell in love with Arabic and Assyrian folk-pop music. When he was just seven years old, he started studying music at the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music.
He learned to play several musical instruments, including the bozouk and the clarinet. He also sang in school and church choirs, which helped him improve his voice. Before becoming a full-time musician, Yacoub also studied interior design at the Palestine Polytechnic University.
Becoming a Star
Yacoub's journey to fame began early. In 2005, he took part in a Palestinian program called Muhawm and won the title "Star of Palestine." Seven years later, he won first place in the Palestinian Talent Program. In 2013, he released his first song, "Human Spirit." He helped write the song with lyricist Elias Gres.
Winning Arab Idol
In 2017, Yacoub Shaheen won the popular TV show Arab Idol. This show is watched by millions of people across the Arab World. His amazing singing skills helped him do very well from the start of the competition. One of the judges, Nancy Ajram, even said he was "charming, magical, and enchanting."
Yacoub was the second Palestinian to win Arab Idol. The first was Mohammed Assaf, who won in 2013. When Yacoub won, many people in Bethlehem, including the mayor Vera Baboun and Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas, watched live. People celebrated by waving the Palestinian flag and playing his songs. Some young people even wrote "Suryoyo" (which means Assyrian) on buildings to show their pride. After his big win, Yacoub performed Mohammed Assaf's song "Dammi Falastini."
Performances and Festivals
After winning Arab Idol, Yacoub Shaheen performed at many Arab and international festivals. He often performed with the Awtar Band, led by Maestro Yacoub Al-Atrash. For example, he performed at the Bethlehem Cultural Festival in 2022.
Yacoub's Personal Life
Yacoub Shaheen grew up attending the Syriac Orthodox Church and was a deacon there. He is proud of both his Palestinian and Assyrian heritage. He has spoken out to raise awareness about the Assyrian genocide, a sad event from 1915. He is also a member of the Palestine Scout Association.
Yacoub is known for being kind and giving back to his community. He has donated some of his winnings to orphanages and often celebrates his birthday with children there. He also owns a fashion store in Bethlehem and has two sisters.
